The slate of games on October 12th was arguably the best of the season thus far, and the prime time frame featured two matchups between top-15 teams. And after two hard fought contests, it was Oregon and LSU who snagged victories to keep themselves firmly in the mix.<\/p>\n<h2>Oregon Downs Ohio State In Top-3 Matchup<\/h2>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">IT&#8217;S OVER. \ud83e\udd86<\/p>\n<p>NO. 3 OREGON TOPPLES NO. 2 OHIO STATE IN EUGENE. WHAT A GAME. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/pzrROxapap\">pic.twitter.com\/pzrROxapap<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 NBC Sports (@NBCSports) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NBCSports\/status\/1845299000469033240?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 13, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The biggest contest of the day featured two top-3 teams. #2 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/news\/bettors-on-betmgm-are-placing-futures-on-the-ohio-state-buckeyes-to-win-the-national-championship\/\">Ohio State<\/a> paid a visit to #3 Oregon in a newly-formed Big Ten battle, and the on-field action certainly lived up to the hype. The Ducks fought back from an early 14-6 deficit in the first half, but took the lead on multiple occasions during the final 30 minutes of action, including the go-ahead field goal with under two minutes left.<\/p>\n<p>That kick ended up being the difference in the game, as the Buckeyes came up empty in their attempt to put together a last-minute drive. The final score wound up being 32-31 in favor of Oregon.<\/p>\n<p>The matchup between SEC schools didn\u2019t feature nearly as much scoring, but there was plenty of excitement in the game between LSU and Ole Miss.<\/p>\n<h2>LSU&#8217;s Late Heroics Boost Tigers To A Win Over Ole Miss<\/h2>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">IT&#8217;S A PARTY<\/p>\n<p>TIGERS WIN <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/c7UvG98SCw\">pic.twitter.com\/c7UvG98SCw<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 LSU Football (@LSUfootball) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LSUfootball\/status\/1845314407892647994?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 13, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>After no scoring in the first quarter, the two sides combined for 30 in the second frame. Ole Miss entered halftime with a 17-13 lead, then each team added a third quarter field goal. Another three points from the Rebels with under 4 minutes left in the game made it a 7-point margin.<\/p>\n<p>LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier had one last shot with his team down 23-16. After converting a handful of must-have first downs, the Tigers made it down to the Ole Miss 23-yard line. On 4th and 5 and the game in the balance, Mussmeier hit Aaron Anderson with a clutch throw at the goal line, and LSU tied the game with 27 seconds remaining on the clock.<\/p>\n<p>Ole Miss struck first in the overtime period, but were only able to manage to score on a 57-yard field goal. On LSU\u2019s first play from scrimmage during their turn in the extra period, Nussmeier connected with Kyren Lacy for the game-winning score, and the Tigers won by a margin of 29-26.<\/p>\n<p>The loss will likely knock #9 Ole Miss out of the top-ten, and there is a possibility for LSU to move up from #13.<\/p>\n<p>The Texas Longhorns big win in the Red River Rivalry will keep them atop the rankings for the upcoming week, and Oregon will likely hop ahead of Ohio State for the #2 team in the nation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It was a marquee day for college football on Saturday.
