About 1.5 hours after earning the NASCAR Xfinity Series pole at Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course, van Gisbergen climbed into a Cup Series machine and claimed the pole position for Sunday\u2019s Bank of America ROVAL 300.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat an amazing day,\u201d van Gisbergen told NBC Sports. \u201cI\u2019m lost for words.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He certainly wasn\u2019t lost on the reconfigured, 2.28-mile, 17-turn course.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A three-time Supercars champion, van Gisbergen turned a hot qualifying lap of 99.246 mph Saturday, edging runner-up Tyler Reddick (99.177 mph) and Kaulig Racing teammate AJ Allmendinger, who captured the event last year.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Team Penske garage-mates Joey Logano (98.694) and Austin Cindric (98.580) capped the top-five finishers.<\/span><\/p>\n
