The New England Patriots and linebacker Jahlani Tavai agreed to a three-year, $15 million contract extension Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss. The extension has a maximum value of $21 million.<\/p>\n

Tavai, who turns 28 on Sept. 28, was entering the final season of the two-year extension he signed in November 2022 worth up to $4.4 million. He was slated to earn a base salary of $1.625 million in 2024.<\/p>\n

The 6-foot-2, 255-pound Tavai was selected 43rd overall by the Detroit Lions in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft out of the University of Hawai\u02bbi at M\u0101noa.<\/p>\n

Moreover, Tavai has appeared in all 17 regular-season games (28 starts) each of the past two NFL<\/a> seasons. According to Pro-Football-Reference, his 110 tackles with the Patriots in 2023 finished second behind only linebacker\u00a0Ja’Whaun Bentley\u00a0(114).<\/p>\n
