Lee Carsley has seemingly ruled himself out of the running to become England’s permanent manager, urging the FA to appoint a coach with a proven track record of winning trophies.

The interim boss made the comments following England’s 3-1 victory over Finland in the UEFA Nations League.

While Carsley has been linked to the permanent position, he appeared to suggest that his experience and achievements don’t quite match the level required for the role.

“People are always going to try to put their chips to one side. I’m totally in the middle,” Carsley told ITV. “My bosses have made it totally clear what they need from me.

“This job deserves a world-class coach that’s won trophies and been and done it. I’m still on the path to doing that.”
