{"id":11661,"date":"2024-10-07T11:25:45","date_gmt":"2024-10-07T11:25:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/?p=11661"},"modified":"2024-10-07T11:25:45","modified_gmt":"2024-10-07T11:25:45","slug":"jamie-carragher-everton-anthony-gordon-social-media-post","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/jamie-carragher-everton-anthony-gordon-social-media-post\/","title":{"rendered":"Jamie Carragher Slams Everton For Mocking Anthony Gordon In Teasing Social Media Post"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has slammed Everton for mocking Anthony Gordon in a social media post after he missed a penalty for Newcastle at Goodison Park on Saturday evening.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Everton and Newcastle played out a 0-0 stalemate at Goodison Park in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/ben-brereton-diaz-winless-record-premier-league-southampton\/\">Premier League<\/a>&#8216;s evening kick-off on Saturday, with ex-Toffees winger Anthony Gordon being denied by Jordan Pickford from the penalty spot in the first half.<\/p>\n<p>The Magpies dominated possession throughout the majority of the tie but failed to find the back of the net, as the home side defended well to earn a valuable point and move two points clear of the drop zone.<\/p>\n<p>Gordon, who was returning to Goodison for the third time since switching Everton for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/richest-premier-league-owners\/\">Newcastle<\/a> in a \u00a340 million move back in January 2023, was booed throughout the fixture, and his penalty miss was celebrated almost as much as a goal.<\/p>\n<p>It didn&#8217;t take long for the Merseyside club&#8217;s social media team to get in on the act either. They posted a video of the 23-year-old&#8217;s penalty miss edited with a sound of a negative buzzer when Pickford made the save.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"zxx\" dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/fCxiR5mTxo\">https:\/\/t.co\/fCxiR5mTxo<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/aMC9rG215D\">pic.twitter.com\/aMC9rG215D<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Everton (@Everton) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Everton\/status\/1842861433173803085?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 6, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Unsurprisingly, the post sparked outrage among members of the Newcastle fanbase, while former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/diogo-jota-goal-liverpool-crystal-palace\/\">Liverpool<\/a> and England defender Jamie Carragher also slammed the club for poking fun at Gordon.<\/p>\n<h2>Jamie Carragher Slams Everton For Mocking Anthony Gordon<\/h2>\n<p>Writing on X (formerly Twitter), Carragher criticised his boyhood club for their post.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Local lad who came through your academy, helped keep you up under Lampard, wanted out because the club was a shambles on &amp; off the pitch &amp; who you then sold for 40M. The Peoples club!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, meanwhile, defended his winger after the game, claiming that the England international &#8216;dealt with the occasion&#8217; of playing at Goodison well.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Naturally he will be disappointed, but a much better performance from him today than here last year, I thought he dealt with the occasion well,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I thought he handled that disappointment really well, as I know from personal experience &#8211; not missing a penalty but making a mistake &#8211; the moment goes against you and plays on your mind. It can affect you negatively. He really learnt from last season\u2019s game and international experience. There was a lot of pressure on him at that moment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He has been an outstanding penalty taker, so I have no issues with him taking it or taking them in the future. Anyone can miss a penalty.
