Magpies Come From Behind To Beat Wolves 2-1

It was an entertaining game of football in the West Midlands on Sunday as Wolves hosted Newcastle to conclude Super Sunday, and it was the hosts who struck first.

Captain Mario Lemina put his side 1-0 up after finishing off a slick counter attacking move. The ex-Southampton man was in the right place at the right time to sweep the ball past Nick Pope.

For the first time this season, it meant that Wolves would go into half-time with a 1-0 lead. Things went well for Gary O’Neil’s side in the first half, but they were in need of another goal to put the game to bed.

Eddie Howe’s Magpies came out in the second half firing after making three substitutions at the break. Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes and Joe Willock replaced Joelinton, Sean Longstaff and Alexander Isak.

The subs certainly changed the game with former Leicester winger Barnes heavily involved upon his introduction to the game.

It took the visitors 75 minutes to find a goal, but it was Fabian Schar who got it after his long-range effort was deflected into the Wolves net. The centre-half was almost 30 yards out, but as he often does he hit the ball with power and it found its way past Sam Johnstone.

Newcastle were back in the game, and ready to find a winner. And it came just five minutes later after the two subs in Willock and Barnes combined as the latter curled the ball into the top corner. Barnes showed insane skill and strength to get his shot off, which any goalkeeper in the world would have struggled to save.

Howe’s men eventually held on, recording a 2-1 win which sees them sitting third in the Premier League.
