Where Is The 2024/25 UEFA Champions League Final Being Played?

The 2024/25 UEFA Champions League final will be played at the 70,000 capacity Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, the home of six-time champions and 33-time Bundesliga winners FC Bayern Munich.

Now the Champions League, but formerly the European Cup, this season will mark the 70th edition of Europe’s premier club football competition, and will be the first of its kind played under the new Swiss-system format.

English Premier League champions Manchester City are the early favourites among bookmakers to lift the title come the end of the season, with last season’s record-champions Real Madrid ranked as second favourites.

Pep Guardiola’s side were eliminated by Los Blancos in the quarter-finals last term, losing 4-3 on penalties after a 4-4 draw, as Madrid went on to beat Bayern in the semi-finals, and fellow German side Borussia Dortmund in the final at Wembley Stadium.

This year’s final will be the second European Cup final to be held at the Allianz Arena, and the fifth overall to be held in Munich, with the 1979, 1993, and 1997 finals being played at the Olympiastadion. It will also be the ninth to take place in Germany, with Stuttgart, Gelsenkirchen, and Berlin all previously hosting.

When Was The Last Champions League Final Held At The Allianz Arena?

Where Is The 2024/25 UEFA Champions League Final Being Played?

The Allianz Arena has played host to just one UEFA Champions League final previously, which was contested by the stadium’s occupants Bayern Munich and Premier League side Chelsea at the end of the 2011/12 season.

Bayern were in control for the majority of the match, and looked to have snatched a victory thanks to Thomas Muller’s 83rd minute opener, however Didier Drogba refused to back down and headed home the leveller after 88 minutes to send the tie into extra-time.

After a goalless additional period, a penalty shootout was required to decide the winner. It would be that man Drogba that made the decisive contribution once again, smashing his spot-kick past Manuel Neuer to secure the Blues’ first ever UEFA Champions League title.
