Alvarez Berlanga Belts

Mexican Independence Day weekend plays host to a blockbuster super middleweight boxing clash between Canelo Alvarez and Edgar Berlanga, where three world title belts are being put on the line.

Former undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez is set to return to the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in September, where he’s due to defend three of his world title belts against the challenging prospect Edgar Berlanga.

This comes as the latest instalment in the long boxing rivalry between Mexico and Puerto Rico, with the latter boasting an upper hand on the Mexicans in world title matches throughout history.

It’ll take something special for Berlanga to overcome Alvarez in this one though, as some of the UK’s best betting sites are heavily favouring ‘Canelo‘ to come out on top.

As the highly anticipated action nears ever closer, read on as we reveal what belts are on the line when Alvarez and Berlanga go toe-to-toe in Sin City.

What Belts Are On The Line For Canelo Alvarez vs Edgar Berlanga?

Boxing fans across the globe are in for a treat on Saturday, September 14, as Canelo Alvarez is putting three of his world title belts on the line when he faces 27-year-old Edgar Berlanga at the T-Mobile Arena.

Dubbed the headliner for a Mexican Independence Day weekend of boxing, Alvarez’s unified WBC, WBA, and WBO super middleweight world titles are up for grabs.

Also up for grabs on the night, in the co-main event, is the WBA middleweight belt, which Erislandy Lara will aim to retain when he faces the challenging Danny Garcia.

Having become the first ever undisputed super middleweight champion in November 2021, Alvarez successfully defended the distinction in four straight fights, defeating all of Gennady Golovkin, John Ryder, Jermell Charlo, and Jaime Munguia in succession.

Since defeating Munguia though, Alvarez was forced to vacate his IBF title after failing to defend his belt against a long-overdue mandatory title defence, bringing his reign as undisputed super middleweight champion to an end in May 2024.

Regardless, three world title belts remain on the line when he returns to Las Vegas in September, as the undefeated Berlanga looks to cause a major upset that would send shockwaves throughout the boxing world.
