Recently retired Andy Murray ditched the tennis racquet for the golf clubs this week as the two-time Wimbledon winner was in action in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

Andy Murray Paired With Strictly Star Anton Du Beke For BWM Pro-Am

Some of the best golfers on the DP World Tour will be at Wentworth chasing the $9m purse the BMW PGA Championships has to offer this week.

However, before the action gets underway on Thursday 19th September, plenty of famous wannabe golfers competed in the Wednesday Pro-Am at the course – including Sir Andy Murray, who has made it no secret he wants to start taking his golf seriously now he’s retired from tennis.

The former world number one tennis player was paired up with Strictly Come Dancing star Anton Du Beke, who partnered Murray’s mum Judy on Strictly, as the two danced onto the first tee at Wentworth to cheers from the crowd at 8am – who included fellow Scot and pro golfer Robert MacIntyre, who was also in Murray’s group.

In the build-up to the tee-off Andy Murray also revealed after that he “couldn’t feel his arms and legs” and feared he’d hit a spectator with his golf ball.

Andy Murray’s current golf handicap is 7, but you feel with more time on the course it won’t be long before he’s reducing that further.

Andy Murray went onto say after the event

“I’m obviously getting to practise a lot more than the average person,” he added. “I obviously played a bit when I was younger, and if I can get the right sort of lessons and practise the right things, then yeah, I’ve got a chance of doing that.

“The lessons have made a huge difference. That’s been the most important thing for me. I used to go down to the range and hit lots of balls, and I could hit a few good ones.

“But if you have a fundamental flaw in your swing or what you’re doing, it doesn’t matter how many balls you hit on the range. So, getting lessons and practising those things is helping.”

Other stars to feature in the Pro-Am were Spider-Man actor Tom Holland, former Real Madrid footballer Gareth Bale, plus England cricketers James Anderson and Ollie Pope.

Andy Murray Also Caught Up With Rory McIlroy At The BMW Pro-Am

Murray was also given some advice on the practice area ahead of Wednesday’s Pro-Am by the current world ranked number three player Rory McIlroy.

McIlroy, who is the favourite with the best golf betting sites in the UK to win this week’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, was heard chatting to Murray before his round – with the former tennis stay saying to after a hug that he’s been playing a lot of golf this year, that he’s been doing a great job, but it’s been a tough year.

This comment was based on McIlroy falling short in the US Open earlier in the year and also losing out more recently in last week’s Irish Open by just a shot.

If Murray continues to take his golf this seriously, it might not be long before he’s getting his professional tour card – you certainly wouldn’t bet against it.
