The UFC Event Competing With Canelo Alvarez vs Edgar Berlanda Is Running At A Cost Of $20 Million
UFC 306, which is set to compete head-to-head with the Canelo Alvarez vs Edgar Berlanda boxing event, is running at a cost of $20 million.
The reports come after the UFC had slashed ticket prices multiple times for the event, which takes place at the Sphere in Paradise, Nevada, part of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Area.
UFC 306, which is in partnership with Riyadh Season, will take place the same night as the Matchroom boxing event headlined by Canelo Alvarez vs Edgar Berlanda.
Both take place on Saturday 14 September, which is Independence Day in Canelo’s home nation, Mexico.
UFC president Dana White disclosed that due to the T-Mobile Arena being occupied by Canelo’s fight, they were forced to seek a different venue for their event.
The $20 million deficit of the running of UFC 306 is due to production costs, but White has reinforced that the event will be “beast”.
As for the card, UFC 306 will be headlined by a bantamweight title fight between Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili, with Alexa Grasso vs Valentina Shevchenko for the women’s flyweight title as the co-main.
Saudi Arabian adviser Turki Alalshikh, who spearheads Riyadh Season – UFC’s official partner for 306 – recently took a combative stance against the boxing event headlined by Canelo.
Alalshikh said ESPN that UFC 306 will “eat” Canelo’s boxing event on September 14th.
Alalshikh’s Riyadh Season has hosted some of boxing’s biggest fights over the past couple of years, including Oleksandr Usyk vs Tyson Fury as well as a string of Anthony Joshua fights.
However, it is yet to feature arguably boxing’s biggest star in Canelo, who will not be fawning over Alalshikh anytime soon, as the tension between the two boxing powers builds.
