Twitter Reacts to Controversial Bruno Fernandes Red Card as Manchester United Embarrassed At Home To Tottenham
Bruno Fernandes’ red card for Manchester United was a major talking point in Sunday’s defeat to Tottenham, and fans have had their say on the incident on Twitter.
Manchester United were embarrassed at Old Trafford by Spurs, losing 3-0 in front of their home fans in a one-sided game that could’ve been five or six on another day.
Former United captain Gary Neville labelled the performance as ‘disgusting’, criticising both the players and the manager for the lack of quality and effort.
Brennan Johnson opened the scoring inside just three minutes after an incredible solo assist from centre-back Micky van de Ven.
Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke both got on the scoresheet in the second half to wrap up the three points for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
However, Bruno Fernandes’ red card in the first half was the major talking point. Just before half-time, the United skipper was dismissed for a contentious challenge on James Maddison.

The incident has garnered a mixed response on social media, with some quick to defend Fernandes and label the sending off as soft, while others have been less sympathetic.

Never a red

Dislike Bruno as much as the next man, but that is never a red card in a million years. We have to speak up about crap like that because it could be us next week. Nowhere near good enough @FA_PGMOL

His left foot slipped, was a cynical foul a yellow at best so harsh https://t.co/C1zdBN3m1Z

I should just schedule a “games gone” tweet for every single weekend.
Football is horrific nowadays.

I can see why many think this is an ultra harsh punishment for a slip. I’m struggling to tell if the lunge is in reaction to the slip or just an accident. But if anyone has earned a presumption of petulance in recent years, it’s Fernandes. pic.twitter.com/qBtxDzesMW

Twitter Have Their Say On Ten Hag and Manchester United
The defeat leaves United lingering in the bottom half of the Premier League table, with just seven points from the first six games.
Erik ten Hag is once again under fire following back-to-back 3-0 defeats in their last two league games at Old Trafford. Only Southampton have scored fewer goals in the Premier League than the Dutchman’s side.
Fans of United and rival clubs alike have had their say on Ten Hag’s position as manager.
Manager will be questioned quite rightly but how many of these players are playing utter shite….

“Ten Haag can’t believe what he’s watching, I can’t believe what I’m watching” you play like this approximately twice a month Gary

To be honest I don't quite get how you can watch this performance from Man Utd so far and blame it significantly on individuals.
This is just ETH coaching + tactics getting punished, like United's unstructured build-up vs Spurs' really intense press.
— Alex (@EuroExpert_) September 29, 2024
It has sort of been untenable for Ten Hag since he was interviewed for his own job in the summer.
Once you're in that situation, you basically need a massively consistent run of convincing wins or it's an issue that's never going to go away.

It’s year 3.
What is our identity?
What exactly is our plan?I’m tired.
