Newly appointed England manager Thomas Tuchel has seemingly left the door open for a potential change in captaincy, despite his history with Harry Kane.

The duo previously worked together at Bayern Munich, where Tuchel was instrumental in bringing Kane to the club from Tottenham.

While Tuchel expressed immense admiration for Kane’s abilities and contributions, he emphasised that the decision regarding the captaincy would be made at a later date.

“It’s too early to make these decisions,” Tuchel told reporters. “I want to give the respect to Lee [Carsley] and not interfere [with the next two games].”

This leaves fans and pundits alike wondering whether Kane will retain the armband or if Tuchel may have other plans.

Kane, who has been the England captain since the 2018 World Cup, has already expressed his excitement about reuniting with Tuchel, posting on social media: “Looking forward to playing under the boss again!”

While Kane’s leadership qualities are undeniable, Tuchel’s appointment could signal a shift in the team’s dynamics.

As a manager known for his tactical acumen and demanding standards, Tuchel may have different expectations for the captaincy role.

It is possible that he may prefer a player who is more vocal on the field or who embodies a specific style of play.

The striker is set to lead the Three Lions out in November for their final matches under interim manager Lee Carsley. However, the question of who will wear the armband when Tuchel officially takes over remains unanswered.
