Harry Maguire Injury Update

Lee Carsley’s England team for the upcoming Nations League matches against Greece and Finland is the first Three Lions squad with no Manchester United players involved since 1976.

No Room For United Players In England Squad

For the first time in just under 50 years, there will be no Manchester United players involved with England for the upcoming international break.

United have a long history of providing superstars for the Three Lions including the likes of Wayne Rooney and Bobby Charlton, who both registered over 100 caps for their country during their impressive careers.

71 Manchester United players have represented England while playing for the club, combining for a total of 1,415 caps for the Three Lions in the last 119 years.

Other notable names include David Beckham, who scored an iconic free kick for England against upcoming Nations League opponents Greece to send his nation to the 2002 World Cup, in one of countless memorable moments for the midfielder.

But things have changed with time and Manchester United are no longer the side they once were. With no wins in their last five games and discontent spreading throughout the club, it’s hard to pick out any standout performers from the Red Devils during a difficult time.

Marcus Rashford was a notable snub from the England squad this month, with the likes of Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo all unable to feature with injuries.

Rashford has just one Premier League goal to his name this season after seven matches and other options such as Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon were preferred to the 26-year-old.

While Shaw’s injury has been an ongoing issue for some time now, both Mainoo and Maguire were late withdrawals from the squad this week. Maguire is expected to miss the next few weeks for United and England after being substituted against Aston Villa last weekend with a knock.

Mainoo was the only player from United to actually be included in Lee Carsley’s squad, but the 19-year-old also withdrew from the team after picking up a hamstring injury against Villa.
