Ruben Amorim Sporting Fans United

Sporting Lisbon fans are attempting to put Manchester United off the idea of appointing Ruben Amorim as he nears a move to Old Trafford.

The Sporting Lisbon manager is nearing closer to a move to Manchester United, as he takes the place of Erik ten Hag following the Dutchman’s departure.

After a string of poor results that left the Red Devils 14th in the Premier League, Ten Hag was relieved of his duties and replaced by Ruud Van Nistelrooy on an interim basis.

However, the interim boss is not set to take the job on permanently and United have started their search for a new manager.

Ruben Amorim is the favourite to take the job on UK betting sites, with reports saying that he has agreed terms with the Red Devils and it is just between the clubs to agree a deal.

United will have to pay £10 million for the Portuguese coach due to his release clause at Sporting Lisbon and they will also need to pay Erik ten Hag around £15m.

News of Amorim’s departure has not gone down well with Sporting Lisbon fans however, with several attempting to put United off by claiming their manager is not the right option for the Red Devils.

Fans have taken to Twitter to ironically belittle Amorim’s capability as a coach in hopes of deterring United from an agreement with Sporting.

This is obviously a ploy as Amorim has enjoyed a superb run this season and during his whole time as the Sporting Lisbon manager.

In the 2024/25 season, Sporting have made a faultless start to their league title defence by winning each of their first nine matches and conceding just two goals.

Amorim is not the only name being linked with the Manchester United job, with the likes of Gareth Southgate, Julian Nagelsmann and Thomas Frank all being rumoured with a move to Old Trafford.
