Shadow Of Light

Shadow Of Light completed the rare Middle Park and Dewhurst double on Saturday afternoon with an impressive display to justify favouritism at Newmarket.

Godolphin Colt Shadow Of Light Pounces Late In Dewhurst

After Dewhurst ante-post favourite The Lion In Winter was declared a non runner in the race, it gave Godolphin every chance of winning the contest for a fourth time.

And exactly that happened as Shadow Of Light romped home late to collar Aidan O’Brien’s Expanded and stablemate Ancient Truth (see below).

William Buick had Shadow Of Light racing on the far side of the track with Seagulls Eleven and Rock Of Cashel. However, a race-changing move from the two-time Champion Jockey allowed his mount to get close to leaders on the near side and eventually win in the final strides.

This Dewhurst win was a rare one as Shadow Of Light became only the fifth horse ever to complete the Middle Park and Dewhurst Stakes G1 double. The last horse to do the same was US Navy Flag in 2017.

The flashy two-year-old won the Middle Park just a couple of weeks ago in dominating fashion, beating Whistlejacket by 4 lengths.

William Buick Confirms Shadow Of Light Will Head To 2,000 Guineas

Following the impressive 7f performance by the son of Lope De Vega, the horse looks primed and ready for a step up in trip next season. Charlie Appleby’s juvenile will seemingly head to the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket next may following comments made by Buick.

Shadow Of Light has been cut to as short as 8/1 (from 16/1) to win the race with the best horse racing betting sites and he has to have a great chance.

Buick spoke to the media after the Dewhurst: “It was a fantastic performance and a credit to Charlie (Appleby) and His Highness two weeks after his impressive Middle Park race. Today, he showed a lot of courage and class. It was made very difficult for him.

“I was surprised how well he saw the seven furlongs out today so I presume he’s just left the door open to come back here in May.
