Ryan Moore Reveals His Best Breeders’ Cup Ride…..And It’s NOT City Of Troy
Top jockey Ryan Moore, who is the number one stable jockey for Aidan O’Brien, has lifted the lid on his BEST Breeders’ Cup chance ahead of the 2024 Del Mar action on Friday and Saturday – and it’s NOT the big hype horse City Of Troy.
Ryan Moore Selected LAKE VICTORIA As His Best Breeders’ Cup Ride
Forget City Of Troy in the Breeders’ Cup Classic on Saturday – well, maybe just for 24 hours – as top jockey Ryan Moore has told David Jennings from the Racing Post that his mount in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (11:05pm GMT) on Friday is his BEST CHANCE over the meeting – outside City Of Troy.
The horse in question is the unbeaten filly LAKE VICTORIA, who has won all four of her career starts.
“Apart from City Of Troy, what’s your best ride at the meeting? Said Jennings
“Lake Victoria – replied Moore
“Yikes, that was emphatically answered.
“Well, she’s odds-on, isn’t she? So, I don’t think I’m giving away any trade secrets.
Ryan Moore and Aidan O’Brien also teamed up to win the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf in 2022 with Meditate (watch below).
Lake Victoria Was Last Seen Winning The Cheveley Park Stakes
The exciting Frankel filly LAKE VICTORIA is already favourite for the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket in 2025 with the best horse racing betting sites in the UK, but before that she’s also the red-hot favourite to add the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf to her already impressive CV.
Having won on debut at the Curragh and then taking the G3 Solera Stakes at Newmarket, she’s stepped up again to win the Moyglare Stud Stakes and last time the Cheveley Park Stakes (watch below).
That latest win was Lake Victoria’s most impressive win to date – winning by 3 lengths over 6f on softer ground.
This Breeders’ Cup race on Friday will be her first try stepped up to a mile, but her breeding suggests it should be more than in range – especially on what’s expected to be super-fast going and what is deemed to be an ‘easy mile’ at Del Mar.
In short, it will (should) be a nice introduction to her first try over this longer distance and her trainer Aidan O’Brien agrees.

City Of Troy All The Rage In The Breeders’ Cup Classic On Saturday
In addition to Lake Victoria at Breeders’ Cup Friday, Ryan Moore and Aidan O’Brien will be hoping they can go to bed with at least Lake Victoria in the bag – and turn their focus to the Classic and City Of Troy.
This year’s Epsom Derby winner has been all the rage with the best betting sites in the UK since winning the Juddmonte International Stakes at York last time out – with the form of that franked by the fourth Bluestocking going onto win the Arc.
City Of Troy is also a son of the former US Triple Crown winner Justify so many expect him to handle the dirt at Del Mar, while this US connection has also meant he’s got a strong following with the racing fans from across the pond.
If the betting is to be believed, he’ll face his biggest challenge from the Todd Pletcher runner Fierceness, who won the Travers last time out.
Plus, also the Japanese runner Forever Young, who will be familiar to US racing fans having run a close third in the Kentucky Derby back in May.
The Breeders’ Cup Classic will also be one of three races shown LIVE on Saturday on ITV Racing.
