Rafael Nadal has confirmed that he won’t be competing at the 2024 Laver Cup in Berlin, providing fresh concerns over his long-term future.

The Spaniard has endured a series of injuries this year which have restricted his time on court. Nadal’s last appearance came at the Paris Olympics.

Furthermore, he has missed three of the four Grand Slams which indicates that his glittering career is slowly coming to a close.

At the age of 38, the King of Clay knows he isn’t blessed with an abundance of time. It was at the Laver Cup in 2022 that friend and old rival Roger Federer called time on his glittering career.

Rafa Nadal Won’t Feature At The Laver Cup

“I’m really disappointed to share that I won’t be able to compete at the Laver Cup in Berlin next week,” Rafael Nadal explained in a statement.

“This is a team competition and to really support Team Europe, I need to do what’s best for them and at this moment there are other players who can help the team deliver the win.

“I have so many great, emotional memories from playing Laver Cup and I was really looking forward to being with my team-mates and with Bjorn (Borg) in his final year as Captain.

“I wish Team Europe the very best of luck and will be cheering them on from afar,” he concluded. The 14-time French Open winner didn’t speak out about his recent injury concerns.

Nadal may already be looking at getting some tournaments under his belt going into the new year. However, he may call time on his career if his fitness and injury concerns continue to hamper him.

The 2024 Laver Cup starts on September 20 as Team Europe and Team World get set to lock horns once again. This year’s event will be hosted at the Uber Arena in Berlin.
