Andrew bids to get the new week off to a flyer with three two stats-based selections on Monday, October 21st…

PONTEFRACT 2.15

HALA JOZA (systems – Twilight Son, first-time blinkers & Twilight Son, second career start, beaten by 7L or less on debut)

Progeny of the sire Twilight Son often respond well to first-time blinkers, landing seven of their 45 starts for a profit of £14.63 to a £1 level stake at SP. They also do well on their second career start, especially when they showed ability in defeat on debut (defined as finishing within seven lengths of the winner), winning 20 of their 85 such starts for a profit of £18.85. David Loughnane’s HALA JOZA finished a promising 16-1 six-length sixth of 11 on her debut at Wolverhampton last month and can take a big step forward this afternoon.

PONTEFRACT 3.45

SOPHIA’S STARLIGHT (system – Grant Tuer, fillies/mares in handicaps on turf)

Grant Tuer does well with filles and mares in handicaps and not just in races confined to their own sex. Since 2019, backing his female runners in turf handicap would have found 28 winners from 156 runners (18% strike-rate) for a profit of £24.27 to a £1 level stake at SP. SOPHIA’S STARLIGHT is five from ten on this angle (+£15.25) and can follow up last month’s 13-2 Newmarket success.

SOUTHWELL 7.45

KING CHAOS (system – Karl Burke, second time out 3yos, all-weather)

The Karl Burke-trained KING CHAOS shaped well on his debut in a 1m2f fast-ground Windsor maiden in mid-August, doing best of the closers when a 12-1 third of nine (beaten by two lengths). His handler does well with second time out three-year-olds on the all-weather, scoring with 19 of the 81 qualifiers since 2010 for a profit of £104.78 to a £1 level stake at SP. At Southwell only in that period the score is eight from 19 (+£84.95) and King Chaos can keep the ball rolling.
