Andrew heads Bangor, Down Royal and Kempton (AW) for his three stats-based selections on Friday, September 6th…

BANGOR 2.45

INTO THE SUNSET (system – Donald McCain, handicap hurdlers at Bangor, recent run)

Donald McCain has a fine record in handicap hurdles at Bangor, one of his local tracks, especially with horses who had the benefit of a recent outing (28 days or sooner). Since the beginning of 2011, he’s scored with 49 of the 156 qualifiers (31.4% strike-rate) for a huge profit of £141.10 to a £1 level stake at SP. He has three such runners today, including INTO THE SUNSET, who returns to the Welsh venue for the first time since his 21-length victory in May 2022.

DOWN ROYAL 5.00

BUCK BARROW (system – Without Parole, 6f+, not debut)

Progeny of the sire Without Parole are profitable to back blind, landing ten of their 62 starts for a profit of £58.04 to a £1 level stake at SP. Those running over 6f or further who had the benefit of at least one previous outing were nine from 38 for a profit of £69.04. BUCK BARROW looks to have been campaigned with handicaps in mind since finishing in mid-division at 50-1 in a Curragh maiden on his debut and could be worth chancing at a double-figure price in this 7f nursery.

KEMPTON 8.30

GRIGIO (system – David Probert riding for Simon Pearce on the all-weather)

Since racing resumed after lockdown in June 2020, David Probert has scored on eight of his 46 rides on the all-weather for trainer Simon Pearce and backing them blind would have returned a profit of £35.00 to a £1 level stake at SP. Eight of the 11 qualifiers at Kempton finished in the first four and GRIGIO, a best priced 25-1 at the time of writing, could be worth a small each-way play now returned to the course and distance of his sole success.
