After a fast start to the new campaign, the 2024/25 Premier League season continues this weekend. Content creator and seasoned expert @Pras_FPL takes you through his FPL Gameweek 2 tips.

I’m @Pras_FPL and welcome to the second of a weekly series for SportsCasting, where I will be providing my thoughts on my FPL picks for each gameweek.

For context, over the last 12 seasons of FPL I have achieved four top 10k finishes, including two top 5k finishes. My seasonal average over the last five seasons is around 21.4k.

Pras’ FPL Gameweek 2 Tips

Captain Pick – Erling Haaland

This isn’t the week to experiment or go different in my opinion. A well rested Erling Haaland is home to a promoted, adventurous Ipswich team and therefore the Norwegian is by far the best captaincy candidate this week.

In fact, I don’t even hate a triple captaincy shout, if you wanted to do so. Second best choice if you have been brave enough to avoid Haaland, is Mo Salah, who looked spectacular in that second half against Ipswich.

Defence – Trent Alexander Arnold

The Liverpool star is my defender pick this week. Despite no attacking returns (he came close!) against Ipswich, he gained 2 bonus points.

I expect a similar solid performance at home to Brentford, where he will be involved through open play and some set pieces.

Midfield – Mo Salah

This might be a theme most weeks that Mo Salah is the best midfield option. Looked electric in GW1, bagging a goal and an assist. With so many defensive injuries for Everton, I also think Son is a good pick this week.

He did disappoint against Leicester, but in the first 30 mins Spurs looked lethal. If you were thinking of selling him, I strongly suggest waiting one more week, at least.

Attack – Erling Haaland

There are lots of reasons in favour of Erling Haaland going big this week. With no midweek European fixtures, there is no worry about rotation or early substitutions.

Early signs are that Ipswich have shown themselves to be a team that “gives it a go” rather than sit back. The betting markets expect City to score 3+ goals, and I expect Haaland to be involved in 50% of those.
