Portugal Scotland Squad Values

Portugal welcome Scotland to the Estadio da Luz in their second Nations League fixture and the Euro 2016 winners are valued at just under £1 billion – five times more than the Scot’s.

Roberto Martinez’s side got off to a strong start in their Nations League campaign, beating Croatia 2-1 thanks to goals from Diogo Dalot and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The match was a moment in history, as Ronaldo scored his 900th career goal and ended a run of six matches without scoring for Portugal.

In contrast, Scotland started their Nations League run with a crushing 3-2 defeat at home to Poland, as a 97th minute penalty from Nicola Zalewski secured all three points for the visitors.

Steve Clarke’s side were 2-0 down going into the second half, but goals from Billy Gilmour and Scott McTominay brought the match level.

Scottish defender, Grant Hanley, foolishly tripped Zalewski in the penalty area and the Polish forward calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner from the spot.

Portugal and Scotland have only met twice since 2002, with Portugal winning on both occasions and you have to go all the way back to 1980 to find Scotland’s last win over their European counterparts.

This record can also be explained when comparing the current squad values of both sides, as Portugal’s side is currently worth over five times more than Scotland’s.
