Manchester United Manager Odds

Former England manager Gareth Southgate is among the favourites in the next Manchester United manager odds market following the sacking of Erik ten Hag on Monday.

Manchester United have officially confirmed that Erik ten Hag has been sacked after a dreadful start to the 2024/25 season, less than four months after penning a new one-year contract extension at the club.

United have suffered their worst start ever to a Premier League campaign, ending Gameweek 9 in 14th place after falling to a late 2-1 defeat away at West Ham on Sunday afternoon.

That loss came just three days after being held to a 1-1 stalemate by Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce in the Europa League, with the Red Devils drawing all three of their opening continental matches thus far this term.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, who arrived at Old Trafford as Ten Hag’s assistant in the summer, has been made United manager on an interim basis while the club conducts a search for a permanent replacement.

While the club takes time to consider who their next appointment will be, we’re taking a look at who leads the way in the next permanent Manchester United manager odds market.

Next Manchester United Manager Odds: Gareth Southgate Among Favourites

Perhaps unsurprisingly, interim boss Van Nistelrooy is the market’s favourite to take over as Manchester United manager in a permanent capacity.

Many had anticipated that he’d be given a go if Ten Hag was sacked when he joined from PSV in the summer, and if he’s able to start his tenure well, kicking things off against Leicester on Wednesday, Red Devils bosses may opt to promote their iconic former striker from within, as they did with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2019.

Gareth Southgate has been earmarked as another option for the 20-time English champions, with the former England boss being heavily linked with the club in the past. It has also been reported that Southgate’s new agent, Jimmy Worrall, is close friends with United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS Director of Sport Sir Dave Brailsford.

Sporting boss Ruben Amorim is another name that is among the favourites to take over as the next permanent Manchester United manager, with the 39-year-old considered as one of the world’s more desirable coaches.

Amorim led Leões to the Portuguese Primeira Liga title last term, their first league title since 2020/21, and was reportedly in contention for the Liverpool job prior to Arne Slot’s appointment last summer.

Former Barcelona manager Xavi is priced alongside Amorim at 5/1 to make the Old Trafford switch. The legendary ex-midfielder was linked with the job last week after reportedly holding talks with club representatives over the now-vacant role.

Graham Potter is another who is considered to be among the candidates to join Manchester United, with the ex-Brighton manager still out of work after being sacked by Chelsea in April of last year.

It has been reported that Sir Jim previously tried to get Potter to join Ligue 1 side Nice, who he also owns, so it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see the INEOS CEO reignite talks with the 49-year-old.

Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna has also been linked with the role in the past. Formerly a youth coach at Old Trafford and part of Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick’s backroom staff, McKenna is rated at 10/1 to become the next permanent Manchester United manager after leading Ipswich to back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League.
