Football fans might have thought the next England manager market would have been shaken up after the Three Lions lost at Wembley to Greece – however, the current interim boss Lee Carsley remains the clear favourite to get the job full-time.
England Suffer Humiliating 2-1 Home Defeat To 48th Ranked Greece
England U21 manager Lee Carsley stepped into Gareth Southgate’s shoes when the former first team boss ended his 8 year reign after the Euros as interim boss – but is still to be officially given one of the most sort-after jobs in football.
Carsley, who had guided the U21 side to win the 2023 European Championships, has since taken the helm of the senior national team in three Nations League matches – beating Ireland and Finland both 2-0.
However, his short tenure hit a bump in the road in his third match when England suffered a humilating home defeat to Greece on Thursday 10th October – losing 2-1 at Wembley.
With Greece also having three goals disallowed in the match, things could have been even worse for last summer’s Euro finalists.

Greece, who currently have a FIFA World Ranking of 48 (England are 4th), were scoring their first ever goal at Wembley and that win over England was also their first in their history – which added further embarrasment to Lee Carsley and the players.
This loss, led football fans to question if Lee Carsley is the right man to take over the senior national team – with one of the big talking points not starting with a recognised striker with Harry Kane injured, despite having in-form hitman in Ollie Watkins and Dominic Solanke in the squad.
However, despite this blip Lee Carsley remains the red-hot favourite with the best football betting sites in the UK to be the next England manager.
Lee Carsley Still Heads Next England Manager Market
The next England manager market would have been widely searched after England’s home defeat to Greece – with many expecting a new name to emerge as favourite.
However, despite Lee Carsley’s first defeat at interim England manager, the former Everton player remains the clear market leader to get the job full-time at odds-on.
With his experience with the U21 England sides, you feel there is still a desire at the FA that Carsley to their safest option – plus he has a chance to quickly put the Greece loss behind him with the Three Lions taking on Finland on Sunday 13th October in their next Nations League match.
Carsley Not Rulling Himself “In, Or Out” Of The Next England Manager’s Job
However, in a strange interview after the Greece game, Carsley stated that he’s “not rulling himself in, or out” of the main England job and also said that his remit was clear to just cover three senior England camps, before heading back to the U21 side.
Adding that “Hopefully, I’ll be going back to the U21’s” – which led the media to question if Carlsey actually wants to be the next England manager.
These comments have led to some support for Thomas Tuchel in the market – with his price shorten up to be the next England manager.

Who Are The Other Possible Next England Managers, According To The Market?
Next best, behind Lee Carsley, in the next England manager market is former Chelsea man Thomas Tuchel – even though there have been rumours of the German being next in line at Manchester United should they get rid of Erik Ten Hag.
Several firms have reported a lot of interest in Tuchel in the market since the Greece defeat – making him the clear second best now.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is the surprise third pick in the market despite still being employed with the Blue Moon club. Maybe this is due to their ongoing legal battles with some feeling Pep’s time at the Premier League champions could be coming to an end.
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is next in the list, with another former Chelsea manager Graham Potter.
While Frank Lampard is not totally unfancied either as the sixth lowest-priced in the next England manager market.
However, at odds-on the layers are still very much saying the FA are still making Lee Carsley their number one target – but a lot can change still depending on how England’s next fixtures pan out.
