Red Card Chaos At The Amex As Brighton And Nottingham Forest Maintain Unbeaten Starts After Heated Draw
A Morgan Gibbs-White red card saw chaos ensue at the Amex as Brighton and Nottingham Forest played out an enthralling 2-2 draw.
After a horror lunge on Joao Pedro, England international Gibbs-White was given his marching orders. For their reactions to the tackle, managers Nuno Espirito Santo and Fabian Hurzeler were also dismissed.
It was a crazy 60 seconds which saw the trio sent off with just seven minutes left to play. Nonetheless, the Seagulls and Forest remain unbeaten after sharing the spoils in a heated encounter.
Gibbs-White was already living dangerously after he was booked on the hour mark for holding. His ill-timed tackle on Pedro looked reckless but referee Rob Jones initially let play continue.

Jones then backtracked on his original decision before showing the Morgan Gibbs-White red card. His actions were met with fury and confusion from both dugouts.
Naturally, Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo was the angrier gaffer when Jones changed his mind. Fabian Hurzeler was furious that Gibbs-White’s tackle originally went unpunished.
Tempers flared over on both benches as the guilty trio eventually accepted their punishments. Furthermore, fourth official Anthony Taylor received a volley of verbal abuse.
The Gibbs-White red card saw the Forest star vent his frustrations towards him. As did Espirito Santo. Taylor’s involvement in the changing of the decision is unclear at this stage.
Ironically, Taylor was actually dropped from refereeing duties for gameweek 5 after receiving online abuse after dishing out 14 bookings in the Bournemouth vs Chelsea game.
On Santo’s and Hurzeler’s dismissals, the Premier League have cited that they were shown red after “unacceptable technical area behaviour.”
The game itself finished all square which leaves both sides unbeaten so far in 2024/25. Chris Wood fired the visitors ahead from the spot after 13 minutes.
Two goals in three minutes from Jack Hinshelwood and Danny Welbeck saw the Seagulls go in at the break 2-1 ahead. Ramon Sosa then scored his first goal for Forest to rescue a point.
