Mikel Arteta has committed his long-term future to Arsenal by signing a deal which will run until the summer of 2027.

The news will come as a huge relief to Gunners supporters. Arteta’s current deal had entered it’s last 12 months so any doubt and uncertainty has now been eliminated.

A three-year extension has now been put in place by both parties. The timing couldn’t have been any better, with the north London derby just days away.

Mikel Arteta Contract

The new Mikel Arteta contract will see the Spaniard receive a hefty pay-rise. However, he is still some way off the yearly wage received by Pep Guardiola.

Fellow Spaniard and Arteta’s former tutor is understood to be earning around £20m per-season. Unsurprisingly, the Manchester City boss is the highest paid manager in the Premier League.

Reports indicate that the Emirates boss’ old deal saw him pocket £9m a year before tax. Now, the new Mikel Arteta contract will see him earn closer to what Guardiola does.

In December 2019, Arteta took over the reins from Unai Emery. The current Aston Villa boss had a largely unforgettable tenure in the red half of north London.

Under the stewardship of Arteta, Arsenal went on to win the FA Cup in 2019/20. No silverware has followed since but the Gunners haven’t been far off.

The last two Premier League seasons have seen them push City all the way for the title. In 2023/24, the Gunners only missed out on the very last day of the campaign.

However, a return to the UEFA Champions League has become a reality under the guidance of Arteta. This autumn, Arsenal will face the likes of PSG, Inter and Atalanta.

Arsenal Future Was Never In Doubt

With the ink barely dry on the new Mikel Arteta contract, the Spaniard delivered a powerful message to Arsenal fans across the world.

“I’m extremely proud, very excited and am looking forward to what is coming next. I’m proud to be where I am and have the relationships that I have with everyone at the club.

“I feel extremely lucky to work every single day with good people and the ambition we have here. I feel very inspired, I feel challenged, I feel supported and I want to do much more than what we’ve already done together.

“Together with the players and everyone at the club, we are looking forward to the coming years, with our supporters, who have emotionally transformed the club and the team.

“Our supporters have transformed individuals and we are different now. You can tell that we are different and for me, that is down to them. We look forward to continuing the journey together,” he explained.
