Bruno Fernandes is worth more than the entire FC Twente squad combined, as Manchester United welcome the Dutch side in GW1 of the Europa League.

Erik ten Hag’s side begin their European journey on Wednesday evening, as the Red Devils play host to the Eredivisie outfit of FC Twente.

The Red Devils have made a sub-par start to the 2024-25 season, picking up just seven points in their opening five Premier League fixtures.

Most recently, United played out a 0-0 stalemate with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, despite putting in one of their strongest performances – especially in the first half.

Last season, ten Hag’s men were knocked out of Europe in the Champions League group stages after abysmal performances against Galatasaray, Copenhagen and Bayern Munich.

The Premier League giants were out of European contention after a poor league finish, but earned a spot in the Europa League by beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

In contrast, FC Twente finished third in the Eredivisie last season, their highest finish since 2013/14, but were knocked out of the Champions League play-offs by RB Salzburg.

This is the first time the Dutch side will be competing in the Europa League since 2012/13, as manager Joseph Oosting continues to build a structure at the club.

So far, Oostings’ side have accumulated 11 points in six league games and have won their last two fixtures without conceding a goal.

A trip to Old Trafford could prove to be a difficult task, especially after comparing the squad values of both teams – as Bruno Fernandes is worth more than their entire FC Twente squad.
