Manchester United Disabled Parking

With several clubs making headlines in recent days over their price increases for disabled parking, SportsCasting has found that Manchester United’s disabled parking is the most expensive in the Premier League.

But despite charging £140 more for the season than any other club, Manchester United have defended a 20% increase in disabled parking fees.

Red Devils fans now have to pay £330 to park for the season, almost double the cost of doing so at the next-most expensive grounds.

Aston Villa were criticised for attempting to double their disabled parking prices ahead of the new season, and have now reverted to last year’s price of £190 for the season.

With 19 home Premier League matches, this figure works out the same per game as Nottingham Forest, Wolves and Everton.

And Manchester City have backed down after facing a severe backlash after introducing disabled parking charges for the first time.

City have now moved to a refundable deposit scheme, where fans pay £6 to park but get their money back if the space is used.

Eleven of the 20 clubs do not charge supporters with a blue disabled badge to park at the ground on match days.

Manchester United Defend Price Hike Despite Highest Disabled Parking Costs

While City have U-turned on their parking charges, rivals United have refused to budge.

Parking charges for all fans have increased by 20% at Old Trafford this season, with the club making no exception for disabled fans.

United claim to have spoken with disabled supporters and campaign groups, who were content with being treated the same as any other fans.

Despite the price of disabled parking rising to £330 for the season, United’s Disabled Football Association (MUDSA) reportedly accepted the change.

However, the club is now looking into parking concessions for parents with disabled children.

But with United now charging almost twice as much as anyone else for disabled parking, fans can certainly feel somewhat short changed.

Manchester City Forced Into Embarrassing U-Turn

The champions rarely crumble under pressure on the field, but they have backed down off of it in this instance.

City angered fans after announcing plans to charge disabled fans for parking for the first time this season.

The club argued the charges would not be used to make profit and would go towards the running and maintenance of the Etihad’s 300-space disabled parking zone.

They did not previously charge their Disabled Supporters Association (DSA) to park, but informed fans of the proposed changes after a high number of unfulfilled booking last season.

But following a severe backlash from disgruntled fans, City have instead brought in a refundable deposit scheme.

Disabled supporters will now pay £6 to book a parking spot at the ground, but will be refunded in full if the space is used on match day.

City have insisted the deposit scheme was always their long-term plan.

Aston Villa Attempted To Double Disabled Parking Charges

Meanwhile, Aston Villa have also been forced into an apology after trying to bump up disabled parking fees.

Ahead of Villa’s opening home game against Arsenal on 24 August, the club contacted supporters who had disabled parking spots outside the North Stand last season, informing them that prices would double from £190 to £380.

Fans claim they were given no warning of the price doubling, with the club now backing down.

On Villa’s website, it now informs disabled supporters that they will pay last year’s price of £190 to park for the season.

“The club wishes to apologise to those affected,” the club said.

It added that the ticket office would be in contact with any fans who have overpaid in order to issue reimbursements.

Majority Of Clubs Do Not Charge Disabled Fans For Parking

But for more than half of the 20 Premier League clubs, disabled supporters do not have to pay a penny to park.

Fans of Brentford, Arsenal, Newcastle, Bournemouth, Chelsea, Fulham, West Ham, Leicester City, Crystal Palace and Ipswich can all park for free provided they have a valid blue badge and book in advance with the club.

Most clubs have limited spaces, so operate on a first come basis, with Brentford only offering parking spaces to disabled season ticket holders.
