Liverpool Vs Chelsea Referee Announced As John Brooks

After being named as the Liverpool vs Chelsea referee, the choice of John Brooks has fallen very favourably amongst Blues fans. Many were delighted that Anthony Taylor is not involved in the game.

Brooks is viewed as a sensible choice and he is one of the newer officials the Premier League has on offer. This season, Brooks has only overseen one top-flight game.

That match came back in September as Tottenham Hotspur ran out 3-1 winners over Brentford. Brooks showed yellow cards to four players that afternoon.

Overall, the Leicestershire-born official has held the whistle for a total of 46 games in England’s elite since making his first appearance back in 2021.

John Brooks’ Premier League Stats For Liverpool And Chelsea

In the three Premier League games involving Liverpool that Brooks has overseen, the Reds have one win, one draw and one defeat. His most recent came in August 2023 when Brooks sent off Virgil van Dijk against Newcastle.

The Dutchman was given a £100,000 fine and extra one-game ban for his protests at the decision. The Reds went on to win 2-1 at St James’ Park thanks to a late Darwin Nunez double.

Brooks has issued 14 yellow cards across those games and awarded one penalty. That spot kick was subsequently saved by Alisson from Aston Villa‘s Ollie Watkins.

For Chelsea, Brooks has also officiated just the three games. The Blues have won two and lost the other. That solitary defeat came against London rivals West Ham in August 2023. 15 yellows have been shown and one red card.

Ahead of Sunday’s showdown at Anfield, the best football betting sites in the UK make Arne Slot’s side the 7/10 match favourites. The draw is 17/5 and Enzo Maresca’s Blues are 15/4.
