Erling Haaland - Manchester City

Abdul Rehman (FPL Salah) has teamed up with SportsCasting to provide you with some alternative captain picks to Erling Haaland for Gameweek 7.

Every week FPL Salah will be providing you with insight and advice to gear you up – continuing with his FPL Gameweek 7 tips. This is his 18th season playing FPL, and he’s finished in the top 1,000 four times, with 14 finishes in the top 50,000.

While he also writes weekly FPL articles for The Athletic and Fantasy Football Hub. This week, FPL Salah will be presenting his top three alternative captain picks for Gameweek 7 and ranking them too. Haaland will no doubt be the most popular captain pick this week.

However, if you are bored of captaining the Norwegian goal machine most weeks and are looking to go elsewhere, these are my favourite options.

FPL Salah’s Top Three Differential Picks For Gameweek 7

See below the three Premier League differential picks that FPL Salah says you should have on your Gameweek 7 radars.

Bukayo Saka (£10.1m) – Arsenal
Fixture: Southampton (H)

Bukayo Saka failed to register an attacking return for the first time last gameweek. He was unfortunate as the England international created four big chances with an xA of 0.79 (first) and also had four shots in the box.

Arsenal play Southampton at home in Gameweek 7 which is arguably the best fixture of the season for the Gunners. Martin Russel’s side will do very well to keep them scoring below two goals and the stats back this up to.

Mikel Arteta’s team are the favourites to score 2.5+ goals (60%).Saka is nailed to start, on penalties, set pieces and is simply his sides best player and FPL option. He is the third favourite to score at any time (49%) in Gameweek 7.

Also, with him being a midfielder in FPL, he does also get an extra point for a goal and for a clean sheet – which is also very likely here.

Cole Palmer (£10.7m) – Chelsea
Fixture: Nottingham Forest (H)

Cole Palmer’s four goals was a reminder to FPL managers of how elite a player and FPL asset he is. I think he is the closest to Haaland and Mohamed Salah in FPL and wouldn’t be surprised if he finished the season outscoring them again.

Chelsea don’t have the easiest fixture in Gameweek 7 though as Nottingham Forest are a decent defensive team.

They have actually conceded the second least goals (five) and have the fourth best xGC (5.9). However, for elite players like Palmer they are capable of big hauls against any opposition and he is still very likely to get some attacking returns.

Enzo Maresca’s team have been great going forward which isn’t a surprise with calibre of attackers they have at their disposal.

They have scored the most goals (15) with an xG of 11.17 (fourth) so could easily put Forest to the sword here. Palmer is at a very healthy 45% to score at anytime also. This could well be another monster haul for the 22-year-old.

  • Rating: 9.3/10

Bryan Mbeumo (£7.4m) – Brentford
Fixture: Wolves (H)

Brentford became the first team to score in the opening minute in three consecutive Premier League games last gameweek.

It was Bryan Mbeumo with a usual fine finish to put his team ahead. The Brentford talisman now has five goals in only six games and has another plum fixture in Gameweek 7 to add to those tallies. Brentford take on Wolves who sit rock bottom of the league.

They have been one of the poorest teams in the league thus far, conceding the most goals (16) and an xGC of 9.5 (thirteenth).

The other advantages to captaining Mbeumo this week is, not only is he nailed to start but he will play the full 90 minutes and is also on penalties.

He’ll also be by far the lowest captained out of the three mentioned in this article so if it works out can see your team make some huge gains. Although be wary that this is also the riskiest option and has the biggest downside too.

The Cameroonian is at 38% to score at anytime and with the kind fixture this week, he will be the favourite to come out of this game with the most points.
