Demetrious Johnson Retires MMA

Former UFC and current ONE Championship Flyweight Champion, Demetrious Johnson, has stunned MMA fans as he retires from the sport aged 38.

Demetrious Johnson Retires From MMA

The iconic MMA star, known as ‘Mighty Mouse’, confirmed his retirement from the sport at ONE Championship 168 at the Ball Arena in Denver on September 6th.

During his time in the ONE Championship, DJ won Flyweight gold and will end his career with a 6-1 record in the MMA organisation.

His only loss came at ONE on TNT I back in April 2021, losing via a second round knockout to Adriano Moraes, who he would then go onto to beat twice in a infamous trilogy.

Mighty Mouse joined ONE Championship in October 2018, being involved in the first trade deal in MMA history as Ben Askren went the other way to the UFC.

Johnson rose to stardom in the UFC, holding the Flyweight title for six years and reigning supreme in 11 title defences before leaving the company.

The 38-year-old could still fight under the ONE Championship bracket, part this would be in jiu-jitsu competition and not as an MMA fighter.

Mighty Mouse delivered an emotional speech in the centre of the cage, confirming to the fans that he will be ending his career as the ONE Flyweight champion.

He said: “Like I said last time when I came to Denver, Colo., I told you guys it was potentially my last fight, and I was not lying. I am done. I am done competing in mixed martial arts, and I want to thank you guys so much for giving me the opportunity.

“I want to say thank you to all my teammates, my wife, my children, everybody at ONE Championship for giving me the opportunity to display my martial arts on this platform.”

After his speech to the fans, DJ was inducted into the ONE Championship Hall of Fame and became the first fighter to receive such an honour.
