In all competitions, the Special One has won eight, drawn four and lost just two of his 14 games in charge so far; a relatively pleasing start to his Fenerbahce career.

A victory over the Red Devils would remind everyone about Mourinho’s tactical prowess. Furthermore, it would certainly help reinflate his ego. Which is probably due a refill!

Domestically, Mourinho was two minutes away from claiming a vital three points in the last Super Lig clash. A late Samsunspor leveller ensured a 2-2 draw on the weekend.

In the UEFA Europa League, Fenerbahce are unbeaten so far. Last time out, the Turkish giants beat Union Saint-Gilloise 2-1. Both sides had a player sent off, too.

Manchester United

For Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, the Dutchman eased the pressure on himself with a vital 2-1 win over Brentford on the weekend.

His career as a Premier League manager goes on for now, but it’s in Europe where the Red Devils need to make amends and remind the continent what they are all about.

So far, United have laboured to back-to-back draws in the new league format. On GW1, FC Twente left Old Trafford with a point before a late Harry Maguire goal ensured a share of the spoils in Porto.

Away from home in European competition, Ten Hag’s side has been poor to say the least. In their last ten matches, they have just one victory to their name alongside four draws and five defeats.

Their hosts will provide stiff opposition and an intimidating atmosphere, but United must bypass that. Buoyed by their win over the Bees, back-to-back wins are a must for Ten Hag.

The likes of Jayden Oosterwolde, Cengiz Under, Irfan Can Egribayat and Ismail Yuksek are all ruled out through injury for Fenerbahce.

Former Manchester United midfielder Fred could come in as a replacement for Oosterwolde. It’s a straight toss up between the Brazilian and  Mert Muldur.

Ex Premier League stars Edin Dzeko, Dusan Tadic, Allan Saint-Maximin and 2023/24 United loanee Sofyan Amrabat are all expected to feature.

Injuries continue to burden the Red Devils ahead of their trip to Istanbul. Kobbie Mainoo is the main casualty and will miss four weeks of action with a hamstring problem.

Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Toby Collyer and Mason Mount will all be absent. A late call is expected to be made on Casemiro after he was subbed off against Brentford with a slight muscle injury.

Captain Bruno Fernandes is banned so Christian Eriksen will fill the void.  Summer signing Manuel Ugarte also gets the nod in midfield.

We are going to sit on the fence for Thursday’s clash and predict a draw between Fenerbahce and Manchester United. A low scoring stalemate at that.

Both sides are suspect to defensive frailties but we believe both teams will be a lot stronger in that sense in Istanbul. In fact, it’ll likely be a fairly cagey affair.
