Fantasy Football Week 3 Tips

I’m Pras_FPL and welcome to the third of a weekly series for SportsCasting where I will be providing my thoughts on my Fantasy Football Week 3 tips.

For context, over the last 12 seasons of FPL I have achieved four top 10k finishes, including two top 5k finishes. My seasonal average over the last five seasons is around 21.4k.

Every week, I’ll be talking about the Captaincy, and 2 picks per position. One the sensible pick, the head if you will. The other is the maverick pick, or the heart. The idea is to give you two options per position to either chance it and go different or be safe and sensible.

CAPTAINCY

Head – Erling Haaland most weeks remains the sensible captaincy choice. Before European games start him playing 90+ mins remains more assured.

He has started the season in scintillating form, and it’s difficult to back against the Norwegian who has a combination of high ownership and explosivity.

Heart – Cole Palmer is my maverick pick for captaincy. Crystal Palace have looks quite shaky at the back – having lost Anderson to Fulham and some transfer uncertainty on Guehi. Palmer played the number 10 role against Wolves and 4 returns show that last reason was a one-off.

DEFENEDER

Head – Looking at clean sheet odds, it will be hard to call a clean sheet this gameweek. There is no obvious fixture. However Arsenal at home have been rock solid, so I think the highest upside defender this week would be Ben White – due to prospect of a return at both ends of the pitch.

Heart – Rico Lewis came inches away from scoring last gameweek. His form has been rewarded by an England call up as well. A really high upside pick this week again if he starts, and early signs are that we are seeing a changing of the guard at the right back position at City (and England) from Kyle Walker to Lewis.

MIDFIELDER

Head – Mohamed Salah has a hat trick, 11 goals and 4 assists in 13 appearances against Man United in the Premier League in his career. He loves playing them and despite the fixture being at Old Trafford, I expect Mo to continue his good start to the season.

Heart – As mentioned in the captaincy section, Palmer’s upside is huge this week.

FORWARD

Head – Again most weeks, the head forward pick will be Erling Haaland, for all the reasons mentioned in the captaincy section.

Heart – FPL is about picking players before they become bandwagons, and I think it couldn’t be more true for Ollie Watkins. A couple of early subs have put off some people, but I think that is more due to no pre-season. He is getting closer to full fitness / match sharpness, could have scored two goals against Arsenal. He is my maverick pick this gameweek.
