Manuel Ugarte to Manchester United is on the cusp of completion, with Fabrizo Romano suggesting the player was only ever interested in a move to Old Trafford.
He also confirmed that he was the only player Manchester United wanted in defensive midfield. Therefore, indicating that manager Erik ten Hag’s summer dealings are all but complete.
Once the transfer is official, United will have signed their primary choices for centre-back, right-back, defensive midfield and up front.
Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt will likely be the new first choice centre-back pairing once the former returns from injury. Noussair Mazraoui has started at right-back in both of United’s Premier League games in 2024/25.

Forward Joshua Zirkzee already has 74 minutes of action to his name. The Dutchman scored the winner against Fulham on MD1.
Naturally, Ugarte is expected to add some much need spice and bite in the middle of the pitch. Furthermore, he will be expected to provide a firm defensive shield in front of the back four.
Defeat to Brighton on MD2 further exposed United’s defensive frailties. Former striker Danny Welbeck and Joao Pedro capitalised on mistakes at the back which cost Ten Hag’s side dear on the south coast.
Further Fabrizio Romano transfer updates suggest that Arsenal and Crystal Palace are set for fresh talks for the sale of Eddie Nketiah.
