Fabrizio Romano Latest: Manchester United NOT Interested In Chilwell

With deadline day looming, it is looking increasingly likely that out-of-favour Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell will remain at Stamford Bridge despite the Blues’ attempts to flog the left-back, with Fabrizio Romano now reporting that Manchester United are not interested in the 27-year-old.

United and Chelsea are currently said to be in talks over a potential swap deal involving Raheem Sterling and Jadon Sancho, and some outlets have claimed that Chilwell has been proposed to the Red Devils due to their struggles in that area of the field, with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia both out injured.

However, Romano understands that United hold no interest in the ex-Leicester City defender and that there are no talks ongoing over a potential deal involving bringing him to Old Trafford.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has made clear that Marc Cucurella is his first choice and that Chilwell is not part of his plans going forward, which has seen him banished from taking part in first team training alongside the likes of Sterling, Trevoh Chalobah, and many more.

His current contract, signed only in April, is worth £200,000-a-week and runs until the summer of 2027.

Due to his significantly high wages, a loan move so late in the transfer window also looks incredibly unlikely, leaving the 21-time England international in limbo, and he could now be forced to watch from the sidelines until January at the very minimum.

It continues what has been a nightmare summer for Chilwell, after he was left out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the 2024 European Championship despite first-choice Shaw missing the majority of the tournament through injury.

Maresca On Chilwell’s Chelsea Future

Following Chelsea’s opening weekend loss to Manchester City, head coach Maresca was branded ‘brutal’ for his treatment of Sterling and Chilwell, to which he responded: “Brutal? I don’t think so, I just try to be honest.

“I can repeat again if it’s not clear: I spoke with Raheem before the City game, I said he is going to struggle to get minutes with us and this is the reason why he is out of the squad.

“With Chilly, I said he is a lovely guy, but he is going to struggle because of his position. He is going to struggle. If you define this as brutal, it’s up to you to decide. For me, it’s not brutal, it’s just honest.”
