Erling Haaland goal record

Erling Haaland is rapidly closing in on Sergio Aguero’s Premier League hat-trick record, after scoring yet another treble in City’s victory at West Ham.

Saturday’s trio of goals in the 3-1 victory marked the eighth time Haaland has scored a hat-trick in the Premier League.

The Norwegian striker becomes only the seventh player to have scored as many, having played at least 189 fewer games than the others.

This latest treble was also the second time Haaland has netted back-to-back hat-tricks in the competition, having scored another three against Ipswich a week earlier.

He previously scored successive trebles against Nottingham Forest and Manchester United in 2022.

Moving into joint fourth place on the all-time list of Premier League hat-trick scorers, Haaland has now overtaken Wayne Rooney.

With eight and counting, he joins the likes of Michael Owen, Harry Kane and Thierry Henry.

And he is rapidly closing in on the record set by another prolific City striker.

Sergio Aguero’s 12 hat-tricks in 275 games is the most in Premier League history and one more than Alan Shearer, who scored 11.

Haaland is now just one behind Robbie Fowler, who bagged nine hat-tricks in 379 games.

  • 31/08/24 West Ham (A)

Most notably, this latest hat-trick was Haaland’s first Premier League treble away from home. He also maintained his perfect scoring record on trips to the the London Stadium, having scored in each of his three appearances there.

It seems just a matter of time before Haaland breaks the record set by Sergio Aguero.

And at his current rate, he will overtake the Argentine in far fewer games.

So far, Erling Haaland has scored a Premier League hat-trick every 8.6 games. If he were to keep up that form, he would score his 12th hat-trick in his 104th game, and overtake Aguero with his 13th hat-trick after just 113 games.

To further demonstrate just how incredible the Norwegian superstar has been in front of goal, his current hat-trick frequency would equate to 31 trebles if he reaches Aguero’s 275 games.

And if Haaland managed to stay in the Premier League long enough to match Alan Shearer’s 441 games, he would score a ridiculous 51 hat-tricks at his current strike rate.

That would put him tenth in the competition’s all-time top scorer chart with 153 – from hat-tricks alone.

Such a figure would put him ahead of Michael Owen (150), Robin van Persie (144) and Jamie Vardy (137) even before adding his non-hat-trick goals.

However, even if he were to play all 38 games of every season, it would still take Haaland another ten years to match Shearer’s appearance tally.

But whether Haaland plays another 50 games or another 500 in the Premier League, one thing’s for certain – defenders will sleep far easier when he stops playing.
