Manchester City star Erling Haaland is just one away from 100 goals for the club and will break a record set by Cristiano Ronaldo if he scores against Inter this evening.

The Norwegian international has scored a stunning nine times in his last four matches, and is now on the brink of history.

City host Internazionale in the Champions League, in a repeat of the 2023 final. Pep Guardiola’s men were victorious on that occasion, and will be hoping to repeat the success on home turf.

But for one man in particular, the match could mark a special milestone. Since his arrival at the club in 2022, Erling Haaland has 99 goals for Manchester City in just 103 appearances.

Should he net another in tonight’s match, he will become the fastest player ever to reach 100 goals for a club.

As it stands, the record for fastest time to reach 100 goals belongs to Ronaldo. The Portuguese icon scored 100 goals in his first 105 appearances for Real Madrid in all competitions.

Haaland won’t have it all his own way in trying to break the record tonight, either.

City are up against a strong Inter back line. Centre-back partners Francesco Acerbi and Alessandro Bastoni held Haaland to just a single shot in 90 minutes during the 2023 final.

The duo have helped Simon Inzaghi’s side to two clean sheets in the three matches they have played together this season.

But few teams take anything away from the Etihad, and Haaland rarely needs much incentive to get on the score sheet.

And even if he fails to score tonight, the striker could still match Ronaldo’s record if he nets against Arsenal this weekend.

Erling Haaland’s 100 Goal Sprint

The Norwegian powerhouse scored his first goals for City in a 2-0 Premier League victory over West Ham in August 2022.

We went on to score 17 goals in his first 13 league games, including hat-tricks against Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United.

In his debut season, Haaland scored 52 times in 53 games. This included a record-breaking 36 Premier League goals, as well as 12 in 11 Champions League appearances.

And in 2023/24, he backed that up with another stellar scoring season. Last campaign saw him net 38 times in 45 appearances, with 27 league goals.

But it’s his record so far this season which is most impressive. So far, he has nine goals in five matches, having failed to score in the Community Shield.
