England Squad

Interim England boss Lee Carsley has named his first squad, with both Jack Grealish and Harry Maguire returning, as the Three Lions prepare to take on Ireland and Finland in the Nations League.

Like many nations heading into the new Nations League campaign, England are set to embark on a new era, with former under-21s boss Lee Carsley taking charge of the squad on an interim basis following the departure of Gareth Southgate.

Southgate announced his intention to step down as the Three Lions’ head coach after England were beaten by Spain in the 2024 European Championship final – their second successive Euro final defeat after losing to Italy on penalties in 2021.

As well, 54-time England international Kieran Trippier, who has been linked with a move away from Newcastle in recent weeks, has announced his retirement from international football.

But now, Carsley and his coaching staff look ahead to September’s Nations League fixtures, with the interim boss handing Noni Madueke, Tino Livramento, Angel Gomes, and Morgan Gibbs-White their maiden senior international call-ups for the matches.

Returning to the fold after missing out on the European Championship over the summer, both Jack Grealish and Harry Maguire have been called up to the squad.

Unsurprisingly, captain Harry Kane retains his place in the squad, along with mainstays Jordan Pickford, Trent Alexander-Arnold, John Stones, Declan Rice, Phil Foden, and Bukayo Saka.

Also among the 26-man list, retaining their places from the summer, are Dean Henderson, Marc Guehi, Ezri Konsa, Conor Gallagher, Kobbie Mainoo, Anthony Gordon, Cole Palmer, Jarrod Bowen, Eberechi Eze, and Ollie Watkins.

A notable absentee is, of course, Jude Bellingham. The Real Madrid midfielder sustained a calf injury in training, leaving him unavailable to represent his nation against Ireland and Finland.

Further notable figures to miss out include Kyle Walker, Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw, James Maddison, Ivan Toney, Aaron Ramsdale, Adam Wharton, and Lewis Dunk.
