Raducanu US Open

Emma Raducanu is out of the US Open after suffering a first-round defeat to Sofia Kenin in three sets.

The loss sent Raducanu into tears as she reflected on another disappointing performance at Flushing Meadows. The 2021 US Open champion lost 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 to Kenin.

Raducanu’s Costly Mistake Sends Her Crashing Out

One of the key factors in Raducanu’s defeat was her inability to match Kenin’s aggression and power. The American played with a fearless style, constantly attacking the net and unleashing powerful forehands.

Raducanu struggled to find her rhythm against Kenin’s relentless assault, often finding herself on the back foot.

A turning point in the match came in the deciding set, during Kenin’s penultimate service game. Raducanu faced a crucial overhead, a shot that she typically excels at.

However, the ball was awkward, and she found herself in a precarious position, unable to decide whether to smash or volley. Ultimately, she mistimed the shot, sending it long and handing Kenin the advantage.

Raducanu Reaction To US Open Defeat

Despite her early exit, Raducanu remained composed and candid in her post-match press conference. She admitted to mismanaging her schedule leading up to the tournament and acknowledged that she could have benefited from more match play.

The 2021 US Open champion said, “I would have preferred to probably play a little bit more.”

“When I have a lot of matches, just like every player, you feel really good. You feel like everything’s automatic. So yeah, I think I can learn from it and manage my schedule slightly differently.”

Questions arose about the decision to skip the Toronto and Cincinnati Masters events following her quarterfinal loss in Washington.

Raducanu revealed that the decision was a mutual one, likely influenced by the need to play qualifying at both tournaments due to her lower ranking.
