Declan Rice and Jack Grealish

It was a first half to forget for Ireland as two of their former players in Declan Rice and Jack Grealish both scored terrific goals for England.

Declan Rice and Jack Grealish Score In First Half For England

It just had to be them! Former Ireland youth player Declan Rice put England 1-0 up in Dublin with a terrific strike after just 11 minutes with a perfectly placed effort.

However after scoring, Rice refused to celebrate. The Arsenal midfielder lined up for Ireland 20 times from U17 level up to the seniors.

There was much reaction pre-game to Jack Grealish starting and the Manchester City player impressed early on, eventually finishing off a great team move with a composed finish. Grealish’s strike was assisted by 1st goalscorer Rice, making Ireland supporters even angrier.

Twitter (X) Users React To Declan Rice and Jack Grealish Goals

Some Twitter (X) users were disappointed that Rice chose against celebrating, with one fan calling him “woke” saying that “the game is gone”.

Grealish was fouled multiple times in the first half, and he certainly didn’t hold back in his celebrations, unlike Rice. The 28-year-old had plenty to prove to Lee Carsley coming into the game, but his return to the starting line-up couldn’t have gone much better.

Twitter (X) users were loving Grealish’s celebrations as he embraced with the England away supporters.

Both Rice and Grealish were greeted with a frosty reception at the Aviva, after they both decided to declare for England despite previously playing for Ireland.

Born in London and Birmingham respectively, Rice and Grealish were eligible to play for Ireland through their grandparents.

Rice was tipped up to be a future Ireland captain back in his youth, but has gone on to much bigger and better things as a key figure in England’s sqaud.

As for Grealish, he has been in-and-out of the Three Lions squad over the years, but could be back for good with Carsley in the hot seat.

England fans will hope that Declan Rice and Jack Grealish perform even better in the second half.
