Former Manchester United manager David Moyes believes that current boss Erik ten Hag is ‘doing a brilliant job’ at the club despite a poor start to the 2024/25 campaign.

A goalless draw away at Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon extended Manchester United‘s winless run to five straight matches, with pressure continuing to mount on manager Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils occupy 14th place in the Premier League table heading into October’s international window, boasting just two wins, two draws and three losses in seven matches this term, and only Southampton have scored fewer goals within the division.

Ten Hag, who penned a new deal in the summer after leading his side to FA Cup glory last term, has been heavily criticised for United’s performances so far this season, while fans have also pointed the finger at several first team stars, including club captain Bruno Fernandes.

Club executives are due to meet on Tuesday to discuss the current situation surrounding the former Ajax boss, so a decision on his future could be made before the end of the international window.

Despite all the criticisms, one man that has come to the defence of Ten Hag is ex-Red Devils boss David Moyes. The Scotsman is currently without a club after departing fellow Premier League side West Ham at the end of last season.

David Moyes: Erik ten Hag Is ‘Doing A Brilliant Job’ At Manchester United

Speaking at a Legends of Football event in London on Monday evening, Moyes told the BBC that he believes Ten Hag is ‘doing a brilliant job’ at Old Trafford.

“I think he’s doing a brilliant job. I think he’s showed brilliant resilience in the situation he’s in. I think he should be credited for how well he’s conducted himself,” he said.

“He’s as far as I know, I don’t see him ducking any questions or any media interviews with you people put forward to him so I think you have to give him great credit for that.

“But it’s a job which is going to attract immense pressure, immense people talking. So I have to say, I think he’s doing a brilliant job.”
