Ex-Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has reacted to Erik ten Hag’s sacking by posting a cryptic social media post on Twitter (now known as X).

David De Gea Reacts To Ten Hag Sacking

The Spaniard left United in 2023, but shared a tweet with a sole emoji just hours after it was confirmed that Ten Hag had been sacked by the club.

Many football fans on social media wondered what was meant by the post. Could it have been a critique to the decision, or a thankful response to the news?

Fans React To David De Gea Tweet

De Gea was replaced by Andre Onana at Old Trafford and the former Spain international seems happy with the decision. However he has since returned to domestic football and looks to be thriving in Serie A with Fiorentina.

Fans were left stunned by De Gea’s tweet, with one fan defending Ten Hag: “You play for Fiorentina no one cares what you think.”

Another fan showed their love for their ex-shot stopper saying: “Hahaha David couldn’t wait. Bigger legend in my book to Man Utd than ten Hag.”

As per the announcement made by United on Monday morning, Ruud van Nistelrooy has taken over from Ten Hag as interim manager.

The final nail in the coffin for the Dutchman was an agonising late defeat to West Ham United on Sunday, further adding misery to their worst Premier League start ever.

With a ‘new manager bounce’ expected, United’s next five fixtures give them a chance of revival.
