Chelsea Fans Are FUMING At Having To Pay To Watch Europa Conference League Clash With Servette
Chelsea’s Europa Conference League clash with Servette on Thursday night won’t be televised, forcing fans to pay £4.99 if they are to watch it.
The Blues are set to kickstart their Europa Conference League campaign against Swiss outfit Servette at Stamford Bridge in the first leg of a play-off round.
Enzo Maresca’s side need to beat last season’s third placed Swiss Super League side over two legs in order to advance to the league phase of the competition.
However, Chelsea fans won’t be able to tune in to the match on television, due to a little-known rule regarding British TV rights.
Why Is Chelsea vs Servette Not Being Televised?
Indeed, there are no British TV rights for the playoff round of both the Europa League and the Conference League; only the Champions League playoffs are available to watch for fans in the UK.
The broadcast package negotiated by TV providers only covers the league stage and beyond for Europe’s second and third-tier competitions.
However, Chelsea fans won’t be completely unable to watch Thursday’s game. Instead, clubs are permitted to sell the broadcasting rights for the fixtures they participate in.
As a result, Chelsea have chosen to stream the game directly through their official app and club website, with supporters having to pay £4.99 to watch it.
Chelsea Fans Fume At Having To Pay To Watch Servette Match
After learning that they will have to pay to watch both legs of the Conference League play-off against Servette, it’s fair to say Blues fans weren’t too pleased.
Some fans took to X to express their frustration, particularly given the lacklustre performances and chaotic transfer activity over the last couple of seasons.
Charging £4.99 is a disgrace
Either advertise the game for free or don’t at all
