The horse racing action in France on Sunday (8th Sept) has pitched up a big head-to-head clash between this season’s Queen Anne Stakes winner Charyn and the 2000 Guineas hero Notable Speech – in what looks a ‘must-see’ clash between two of the best milers around at the moment.

2024 Prix du Moulin All Set To Be One Of The Biggest Head-to-Heads Of The Season

Longchamp racecourse will have their biggest race day next month with the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, but the French course will have a cracking warm up before that with the Group One Prix du Moulin this Sunday.

This is because there is a strong European presence heading to France and an unmissable head-to-head clash between the Roger Varian-trained Charyn and Godolphin’s Notable Speech.

Both horses are officially rated 122 and the big gun entries also come into the Prix du Moulin in winning form. The best horse racing betting sites in the UK are finding it hard to split the pair.

“Charyn is having a great year and he still seems to be improving as he’s got better and better each time he’s run this season, so let’s hope that pattern continues. He’s a tough horse with a great mind who loves his racing.

“It will be a slightly different test going around a bend, but he won the Sandown Mile around a turn and I think he’s adaptable. We don’t mind what the ground is as he seems as good on good to firm as he does on soft or even heavy, so he’s very versatile in that regard.”

Charyn Super-Impressive This Season

At the age of 4, Charyn seems to be getting better as time moves on.

Yes, last season this Dark Angel colt was solid Group miler, but he’s come into 2024 having stepped up a few notches. This was backed up with an impressive win at Royal Ascot in the Queen Anne Stakes (watch below).

This talented grey powered home by 2 1/4 lengths that day at the royal meeting and prior to that the signs were good with a close second in the Lockinge Stakes and Listed and Group Two wins at Doncaster and Sandown.

Jockey Silvestre De Sousa has been on his back for each race in 2024 and will also back the trip over to France this Sunday to ride.

Charyn is also a horse that seems to love racing in France – maybe he should have been trained there.

He’s raced in the country three times now – winning twice.

However, Sunday’s Prix du Moulin will be Charyn’s first time at Longchamp, with his past wins coming at Deauville and Chantilly. So, can he carry on his love affair with the French tracks?

Notable Speech Will Have His Moulin Backers Too

The ‘boys in blue’ of Godolphin won the Prix du Moulin in 2017 with Ribchester and before that their only other win came in 2001 on a horse called Slickly with a certain Frankie Dettori riding.

However, in Notable Speech they’ve got a huge chance of adding to those successes this Sunday.

This son of Dubawi is the latest Godolphin superstar to emerge this year. Having not raced as a 2 year-old at all.

Horse racing fans got their first glimpse of Notable Speech back in January, when he made a winning debut at Kempton on the AW. Winning by an easy 1 1/4 lengths.

Notable Speech Landed This Season’s 2000 Guineas

Two more wins at the Sunbury-on-Thames track followed, before taking the big step up to land this season’s 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.

It was a fairly unconventional route to take the first English Classic of the season, but despite flopping next time in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot he’s since bounced back to winning ways.

This success came in the Group One Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood (watch below). Where he beat Maljoom by a comfortable 1 1/2 lengths.

Sunday’s Prix du Moulin run will be Notable Speech’s first venture outside of the UK, but having one all-bar-one of his six career starts – including two Group One races – he’s going to be a formidable opponent for Charyn.

Prix du Moulin Has Been Won Four Times Since 2017 By European Trainers

Despite being staged in France, this Sunday’s Prix du Moulin has been a top race for the European raiders in recent times.

Since 2017, the prize has been won away from France four times. With Dreamloper for trainer Ed Walker the most recent in 2022.

We’ve also saw the classy Baaeed land the prize in 2021. Plus, Ryan Moore and Aidan O’Brien teamed up in 2019 with Circus Maximus.
