The debate between Woods and Nicklaus has split the opinion of golf fans for several years, with the former winning 82 PGA Tours and the latter winning 18 major championships.

Nicklaus has won everything there is to win on the major stage, picking up the most flagship events out of any golfer in history – winning 18 in total.

This includes triumphs at the Masters, US Open, Open Championship and the PGA Championship on several different occasions.

His rival in this debate, Tiger Woods, sits on 15 major championships and has not added to that tally since 2019 – winning at Augusta National.

But Woods has other accolades to strengthen his case, achieving more success than Nicklaus across the PGA Tour and winning 82 times – which is equal for the most of all time alongside Sam Snead.

DeChambeau was asked about his opinion on the debate, as the LIV Golf icon opted for Tiger Woods and also gave appreciation to Payne Stewart.

When asked for his choice, DeChambeau said: “It has got to be Tiger! Tiger is an idol of mine. He’s my hero still and the way he reacted on the golf course; Payne (Stewart), the way he did, and numerous others that have inspired generations.”

The LIV golf star also opened up about how his relationship with Tiger Woods had dwindled following the rift between the PGA Tour and LIV.

However, DeChambeau revealed that Woods did in fact get in touch at the Open Championship after the LIV golfer won at Pinehurst.

DeChambeau said: “It is the first communication, but I’ll say he’s a competitor and I have a lot of respect for him. I’m sure that winning two U.S. Opens definitely helped, I guess, for him coming up and saying congrats. I don’t know what his position is, but it was very thoughtful, and I was appreciative of it.”
