Brighton Vs Liverpool Preview, Prediction, Team News And Confirmed Lineups
Here’s our Brighton Vs Liverpool preview, team news and prediction ahead of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup clash at Villa Park.
Brighton Vs Liverpool Preview
Brighton
Seagulls fans were left in dismay as Wolves scored a late equaliser at the weekend.
Evan Ferguson and Danny Welbeck looked to have done enough for Brighton, but goals from Rayan Ait-Nouri and Matheus Cunha meant the points were shared.
It was Wolves who Brighton beat last time out in the Carabao Cup, though the South Coast side have lost their past five fourth-round matches in the competition.
Brighton have not made the quarter-finals of the League Cup since 1979, but have a strong recent record against Liverpool at home.
They have not lost to the Reds at the Amex in their last three meetings, including a 2-1 win in the FA Cup in January 2023.

Liverpool
Arne Slot’s Liverpool demolished West Ham 5-1 in the last round. The dominant scoreline was a repeat of last season’s quarter-final against the Irons, en route to their final trophy under Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool had been on a superb run in all competitions, but their winning streak ended with Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Arsenal.
They twice came from behind to take a point away from the Emirates thanks to Mohamed Salah’s late equaliser.
But failing to beat the Gunners meant Liverpool relinquished top spot, allowing Manchester City to leapfrog them in the Premier League title race.
Liverpool have n odd record in the EFL Cup recently. They have alternated between lifting the trophy and exiting at the fourth round.
Having won the cup last season, they will be hoping the streak doesn’t continue at Brighton this evening.
Brighton Vs Liverpool Team News
Liverpool are much the same on the injury front as they have been recently.
Harvey Elliott (foot), Alisson Becker (hamstring) and Diogo Jota (abdominal) are all still out, with Federico Chiesa (fitness) and Conor Bradley (unspecified) still major doubts.
Bradley and Chiesa would likely have started tonight if fit, while Joe Gomez may come in for Trent Alexander-Arnold if a rest is required.
Jarell Quansah and Waturo Endo may enjoy starts, and it’s a good opportunity for Arne Slot to give Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo a run-out from the beginning.
Brighton, meanwhile, were boosted by the unlikely recovery of Danny Welbeck against Wolves.
The former England international was stretchered off against Newcastle but managed to start at the weekend. He could be huge for the Seagulls, with so many key men missing.
On-loan Leeds United forward Georginio Rutter is cup-tied, while Joao Pedro is nursing an ankle injury.
Long-term absentees include Solly March (knee), Yankuba Minteh (muscle), Matt O’Riley (ankle), Adam Webster (thigh) and former Liverpool star James Milner (thigh).
Brighton Vs Liverpool Confirmed Lineups
Brighton: Steele; Lamptey, Van Hecke, Igor, Kadioglu; Moder, Wieffer; Adingra, Enciso, Gruda; Ferguson
Liverpool: Jaros; Bradley, Gomez, Quansah, Robertson; Endo, Morton; Jones, Szoboszlai, Diaz; Gakpo
Brighton Vs Liverpool Prediction
Brighton are always strong at home, and will have no fear about hosting Arne Slot’s Reds.
But Liverpool have been immense on the road this season, and we think they’ll have enough to beat Brighton, though a draw is more than plausible.
Prediction: Brighton 1-2 Liverpool
