Jadon Sancho was the star as Chelsea sealed a late 1-0 win over Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday night, with Christopher Nkunku’s strike sealing all three points for Enzo Maresca’s side.

A glittering debut for Jadon Sancho had Chelsea fans on their feet chanting his name come the full time whistle, as the Blues secured a crucial three points late on against Bournemouth thanks to Christopher Nkunku’s strike.

The pair played out a scrappy first half at the Vitality, in which the hosting Cherries had the chance to open the scoring from the spot due to a mistimed challenge from Robert Sanchez, however the Spanish goalkeeper made up for his error and kept honours even heading into the break.

Sancho’s introduction at the midway point completely changed the dynamic of the game for Chelsea and sparked some life into their play. His willingness to take on the defenders worked wonders for the visitors, and Enzo Maresca’s faith in the 23-time England international paid dividends in the 86th minute.

Linking up with fellow second-half substitute, Sancho played a neat pass to the feet of Nkunku, who turned three Bournemouth players and slotted into the bottom right corner, ensuring that all three points returned to West London.

Victory for the Stamford Bridge side sees them climb up the table into seventh place immediately after the match, boasting two wins, a draw, and one loss thus far in the 2024/25 Premier League season.

As for Andoni Iraola’s Cherries, they sit in 11th place after being unable to build on their comeback win over Everton prior to the international window, as they have just five points after one win, two draws, and a loss.

Up next for Chelsea is an all-London clash, as they head to the London Stadium to take on West Ham in the early kick-off next Saturday before taking on League Two side Barrow in the Carabao Cup three days later.

Bournemouth meanwhile, face a tough trip up north to Merseyside to take on Liverpool at Anfield next Saturday, where both sides will be aiming to bounce back after suffering league defeats in Gameweek 4.
