Best FPL Differentials For Gameweek 3

Having previously finished fourth overall a decade ago, Big Man Bakar is a fully-fledged Fantasy expert. He has joined forces with Sportscasting to offer his best FPL differentials for Gameweek 3.

For the context of this article, a ‘differential’ is a considered to be a player owned by roughly 15% or less of FPL managers.

1) Bryan Mbeumo (Ownership: 5.2%, Price: £7.0m)

With Toney potentially leaving, Mbeumo’s FPL appeal will rise, particularly due to his penalty-taking role.

Since the 22/23 season, Mbeumo’s Premier League starts with Toney total 35, where he has 12 attacking returns (5 goals, 7 assists) and an average of 3.37 FPL points per game. Without Toney, in 25 starts, Mbeumo has achieved 23 attacking returns (14 goals, 9 assists) and averages 6.56 FPL points per game.

Needless to say, the difference in his output is quite remarkable! For those looking at a Christopher Nkunku replacement, Brentford’s home game against Southampton provides an ideal opportunity to jump on Mbeumo.

The fixtures in Gameweek 4 and 5 for Brentford are tough but if you have a structure with eight playable attackers, Mbeumo can easily be benched in those two Gameweeks. Brentford have an extremely favoruable fixture run from Gameweek 6 – a time where Mbeumo will become increasingly popular.

If you want to own him as a differential, now is the time to jump on board!

2) Morgan Rogers (Ownership: 12.2%, Price: £5.1m)

Morgan Rogers is another good Nkunku replacement to look at – especially if you are facing budget constraints. Rogers has been one of Villa’s standout players this season, which makes me think that he won’t be a differential for long.

Crucially, he logged the highest number of minutes for Aston Villa during pre-season and played a full 90 minutes in both Gameweek 1 and Gameweek 2, which is promising for his future game time.

In these two gameweeks, he’s leading the Aston Villa squad in both shots and touches in the penalty area. Aston Villa also have a favorable fixture schedule ahead, which enhances his appeal. At the moment, I’m not convinced that any £6.5m midfielder justifies the additional £1.5m compared to Rogers.

3) Mark Flekken (Ownership: 10.9%, Price: £4.5m)

Flekken is the defensive differential of choice this week.Southampton are yet to score this season so a fixture against them immediately stands out for Brentford defensive cover.

I actually think that Flekken is not only the best £4.5m this week but also the best £4.5m goalkeeper for the long term. In each of the past three seasons, Brentford have been in the top eight for the least xG conceded while also being among the top five teams for the most shots allowed from outside the penalty area.

This combination is perfect for a goalkeeper to score consistently.
