The Ayr Gold Cup runners, ahead of Saturday’s big race in Scotland, are now in and in a tight market it’s last year’s runner-up Ramazan who is one of the fancied final entries – along with last week’s Portland Handicap winner American Affair.

Ayr Gold Cup Runners 2024: A Maximum 25 Runners Will Head To Post

There were over 180 Ayr Gold Cup entries at the start of the week – but, of course, there will be a lot of disappointed horse racing owners and trainers as only a maximum of 25 can run.

This is why Ayr racecourse put on the Ayr Silver Cup, for some of the horses that failed to make the gold version – which is run just over an hour before at 2:25pm. Therefore, things like checking any draw bias on the Silver Cup can also often be a help for the Ayr Gold Cup.

One horse, however, that has made the final entries is last year’s runner-up Ramazan.

This Richard Fahey runner was beaten just a neck 12 months ago and with the winner Significantly NOT running in 2024, he’ll be a popular pick to go one better. You can watch how close Ramazan went in the race below.

He was last seen running a close second in the Great St Wilfried Handicap at Ripon but has been raised 3lbs for that win.

The Richard Fahey yard have won the Ayr Gold Cup twice before – in 2006 (Fonthill Road) and 2015 (Don’t Touch).

Ramazan is also one of the leading fancies with the best horse racing betting sites in the UK.

When Are The Final Ayr Gold Cup Runners Announced

The final Ayr Gold Cup runners will be announced on Thursday 19th September at around 10:30am-11am – when we’ll know the final 25 horses that will head to post for Saturday’s 3:35pm sprint over 6f.

Each horse will also be allocated a draw at this stage and with the last seven Ayr Gold Cup winners being drawn 12 or higher this could give you an edge.

WATCH: Significantly Win The 2023 Ayr Gold Cup

Significantly though WON’T be back to defend his Ayr Gold Cup crown in 2023 -as he was taken out at the final declaration stage.

The last Ayr Gold Cup winner to win back-to-back races was in the 1930’s – which will remain for another season at least.
