Aston Villa Vs Crystal Palace Preview, Prediction, Team News And Predicted Lineups
Here’s our Aston Villa Vs Crystal Palace preview, prediction, team news and predicted lineups ahead of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup clash at Villa Park.
Aston Villa Vs Crystal Palace Preview
Aston Villa
Sitting pretty at the top of this year’s Champions League table, Villa have made a great start to the season.
Unai Emery’s team are also fourth in the Premier League and performing well. However, they let slip a lead against Bournemouth at the weekend and had to settle for a point thanks to Evanilson’s 96th-minute equaliser for the Cherries.
Villa haven’t made it past the fourth round of the Carabao Cup since they were beaten finalists in 2020, but are unbeaten in 11 across all competitions.

Crystal Palace
Palace have struggled this season, but picked up their first league win on Sunday. A surprise, 1-0 victory at home to Tottenham lifted Oliver Glasner’s side out of the relegation zone, and may have ignited their season.
Jean-Philippe Mateta grabbed the winner thanks to a superb assist from Eberechi Eze.
Palace beat Norwich City and QPR on their way to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, but they haven’t made it beyond this point since beating Cardiff City in 2011/12.
Nor have Palace beaten Villa away from home in their last seven attempts, though they did humble their opponents 5-0 at Selhurst Park last season.
Aston Villa Vs Crystal Palace Team News
There is little to report on the unavailability front for Villa. Jaden Philogene missed the draw with Bournemouth thanks to his red card against Fulham, but returns to the squad for tonight’s game.
Ross Barkley may come in for Amadou Onana, with the Belgian only lasting a half in Villa’s previous two matches.
The likes of Tyrone Mings may also be given a start as he continues his return from a long-term knee problem.
For Palace, they remain without Chadi Riad (knee), Chris Richards (thigh), Matheus Franca (adductor) and Cheick Doucoure (toe).
Rob Holding is also unlikely to be involved after his recent fall-out with Glasner, while Jafferson Lerma and Ismaila Sarr are both doubts after picking up knocks in the win over Spurs.
Aston Villa Vs Crystal Palace Predicted Lineups
Aston Villa: Olsen; Nedeljkovic, Mings, Carlos, Maatsen; Kamara, Barkley; Bailey, Buendia, Philogene; Duran
Crystal Palace: Henderson; Guehi, Chalobah, Lacroix; Munoz, Wharton, Hughes, Mitchell; Kamada, Eze; Nketiah
Aston Villa Vs Crystal Palace Prediction
Palace have the advantage of not fighting on as many fronts compared to Villa. The hosts have excelled in Europe and will need to rotate more to keep their squad fresh.
But Villa’s second-string have delivered for them so far, while Palace have mostly struggled regardless of who plays.
For that reason, we think a Villa win is most likely, though it all depends on how strong both managers go.
Prediction: Aston Villa 2-0 Crystal Palace
