A Premier League record was broken on Saturday night, as Anthony Taylor dished out 14 yellow cards in Bournemouth vs Chelsea.

Chelsea just edged past Bournemouth on Saturday night thanks to a late Christopher Nkunku goal, but all eyes were on the Premier League record broken by Anthony Taylor.

The referee took no nonsense from the start of the game and he was quick to dip into his pocket in the first half, with six bookings before the break leaving plenty of players in a precarious position for the second half.

There was no let up of the cards in the second half either, as Taylor continued to caution players for almost every challenge. An additional eight players were booked in the second half of the match.

A total of 14 yellow cards were shown in Saturday night’s game and by the end of the match, a Premier League record had been set. Despite 14 cautions being shown, there was no red cards in the match which is quite an impressive feat.

Three yellow cards were shown in the space of just over two minutes in the first half, as Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez wiped out Evanilson in the box to give away a penalty for the hosts.

Adam Smith was shown a yellow for dissent despite his side getting the penalty, but it all meant nothing in the end as Sanchez pulled off an impressive stop to keep the score level.

On top of the 14 yellow’s shown to the players on the pitch, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca was also booked on the sideline, with the Italian manager technically the 15th caution on Saturday.

The previous record for most bookings in a single Premier League game was 13, which came last year in a Tottenham win over Sheffield United that included a second yellow to Spurs striker Richarlison late in the day.
